Tai Hsiao-yao is a chivalrous robber nicknamed The Golden Lion, and his reputation of skilled swordsmanship has earned him the jealousy of Wang Ching-tsao, ringleader of the rival Crimson Shirt Gang. Wang and his men ambush him one night, but Tai manages to escape to his friends place. While his friends are skirmishing in the distance with Wangs gang, Tai (who has been hidden behind their hut) is discovered by a magic doctor who notices not only his wounds but a serious intestinal disease which needs immediate treatment with proper herbs. So with the help of his son and daughter, the kind-hearted doctor Lu puts Tai into a mule cart and they set off for Lu Pang Mountain in search of the herbs.

(aka) Hapkido . Korea, 1934. During the Japanese occupation, there is open warfare between rival martial arts schools. There is a fight in the marketplace, and three Chinese students can't stand the unfair way of students that side up with the invasors, when they gang assault one of the fighting men. Between the three, they send the aggressors away. Retaliation is heavy: their school is destroyed, and they are banished. They return to China, and start their own school, and set out on good-will visits to the other martial arts schools, only to find that everybody in their neighbourhood is already dominated by the Japanese. They have many kung fu fights to win, before they eventually manage to establish peace.

A pair of evil gung-fu artists, Heaven and Earth, are slaughtering the entire Yin-Yang brotherhood. he movie opens with two members of the brotherhood and their two male children being chased by Heaven, Earth, and misc. bad guys. The two members get away separately with their children. Twenty years later we see Jackie Chan as he hunts frogs and snakes and keeps them in his pants. You learn he was one of the boys; the other is a lazy man who uses windmill-driven levers to deliver things to and from bedside, even a chamberpot and breakfast. Eventually, their respective paternal figures are killed, and they are forced to fight Heaven and Earth.

Jackie Chan is a youngster, living in a remote vllage with his grandfather who teaches him Kong-Fu (naturally). He keeps getting into fights, even though his grandfather warns him not to show their Kong-Fu to others. Jackie, though, is tempted by some thugs he beat up to act as the master of a Kong-Fu school. This school's name apparently spreads far, as an old enemy of Jackie's grandfather (who turns out to be the master of an old gang or something equally obscure) shows up and kills him. Jackie goes on training with the help of another member of the old gang, until he can eventually get revenge.
